Ink wash and chalk-paste  My focus here was mostly getting depth into the branches. Since this placed my attention on the structure of the tree, I had the opportunity to play with the visual patterns one can create with sweeps of branches.  

These are two sculpture drawings I recently made at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. These are only sketches, not finished drawings, but I think they are good enough to show here.  These represent part of an effort I am making to master the structure of the back, in preparation for a painting I am planning to make.
